Open RAN Testbed
The lab has deployed an O-RAN-based private 5G network using open-source OpenAirInterface (OAI) software and software-defined radio hardware (USRP devices). This platform delivers a configurable and secure network environment for experiments. It supports multiple types of user equipment (e.g. 5G phones, modems, IoT devices), enabling tests of seamless connectivity and advanced features like network slicing, low-latency links, and high throughput scenarios. The open architecture of the testbed ensures interoperability and easy integration of new 6G components, fostering innovation in next-generation network deployments. In essence, the center’s OAI-Box setup can transform standard radio hardware into a functioning 5G/6G network, providing an open RAN playground for researchers.
