السيرة الذاتية:

Professor of Practice & Acting Chair, Department of Aerospace Engineering & Director, KU Space Technology and Innovation Center (KUSTIC)

Dr. Sean Swei is currently a Professor of Practice and Director of KU Space Technology & Innovation Center (KUSTIC). Prior to joining KU, he spent 20 years as a Senior Research Scientist/Principal Investigator at NASA Ames Research Center, conducting advanced flight research in aeronautics and space exploration. He played a leading role in envisioning and developing innovative technologies for future air vehicle and planetary (re-)entry vehicle concept that are critical for emerging green aviation technology and robotic/human spaceflight missions. Some of his contributions to NASA programs/projects included: developing ultra-efficient “digital” air vehicles with mission adaptive flight capabilities, manned and unmanned air vehicle (UAV) flight research for improving handling/flying qualities and performance, design of critical sun safe mode architecture for LADEE (Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer) mission, integrated distributed and reconfigurable sensing capability for space applications, innovative planetary spaceflight with active lift-guided aeroshell as both decelerator and control effector, and in-space autonomous/robotic assembly of aerostructures.

Dr. Sean Swei was a Visiting Research Scholar at Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (Hong Kong, 1995), Assistant Professor at Nanyang Technological University (Singapore, 1998-2000). He has also been an Adjunct Professor at San Jose State University (USA, 2006-2020) and Adjunct Staff at Santa Clara University (USA, 2016-2020) before joining KU.

Dr. Swei’s research interests are in the general areas of aircraft and spacecraft flight systems, and their integration with advanced autonomou/robotic systems, to formulate a revolutionary concept that addresses long standing technical challenges for future air vehicle and spaceflight research.
