Dr. Hao Zhou is a computational biologist joining Khalifa University as an Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences in January 2025. Previously, he was a Senior Scientist at Moderna, where he contributed to vaccine development and pathogen genomic surveillance initiatives.
Dr. Zhou earned his Ph.D. in Microbiology with a focus on Computational Biology and Genomics from Cornell University. His research has involved developing predictive frameworks to assess the risk of antibiotic resistance gene transfer between species and modeling host-microbe protein-protein interactions to uncover disease-relevant pathways. Passionate about leveraging data science and machine learning, he aims to bridge big data with clinical applications, creating computational tools that advance personalized medicine and innovative therapeutic strategies. His work has been published in leading journals, including Cell Genomics, Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, Science Advances, and Genome Biology.
